π STEM Camp Report β Methil Centre
The Methil Centreβs recent STEM Camp was a dynamic and engaging experience for young people, combining science, creativity, and community spirit. Designed collaboratively by the Community Education Worker (CEW) and the young participants themselves, the camp ensured that every voice was heard and every idea valued.
π¬ Hands-On STEM Activities
Camp sessions were packed with exciting experiments and challenges, including:
Soda & Mentos Explosions β A fizzy favourite that demonstrated chemical reactions in action.
Volcano Building β Young scientists created erupting volcanoes using baking soda and vinegar.
LEGO Engineering β Teams tackled building challenges that encouraged problem-solving and creativity.
Zoolabs Animal Encounters β A fascinating session where children met and learned about exotic animals.
π― Active Fun & Skill Building
To balance the science with physical activity and focus, the camp also featured:
Snooker β Encouraging concentration, precision, and friendly competition.
Archery β A hit with participants, helping develop coordination and confidence.
Darts β A fun way to build accuracy and enjoy some light-hearted rivalry.
π§ Youth-Led Design
Sessions were co-designed by the CEW and the young people, giving participants a say in what they wanted to explore. This approach empowered them to take ownership of their learning and made the camp more meaningful and enjoyable.
βItβs important that young people feel heard and have a say in what happens. Their input is key to the success of the camp.β
